April 10 - We’ve had some really good developments in the last week or so. First, remember the Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act that passed so convincingly in the House a couple of weeks ago? The number of cross-over votes confused me then, and I predicted that it meant either they knew it was going to have a tough go of it in the Senate, or that the Governor was going to veto it anyway. The latter may still be true, but the former was true as well. How’s that for accuracy? Okay, it didn’t take Nostradamus to predict those possibilities, but it’s good to be reminded that there is order in the Universe. In the Senate, CARA got shuffled off to the Federal & State Affairs Committee, where Pete Brungardt (the chairman of that committee) intended to let it die. Pistol Pete didn’t count on the quick thinking of some of the other members of his committee, such as the Ranking Minority Mark Gilstrap (District 5, you have a heck of a guy there!). Mark found a way to bring the bill to a vote in the Senate without it going through the committee process.
I don’t know how much of a role they played in this maneuver, but there are two other members of that committee who deserve a hat-tip, Julia Lynn and Karin Brownlee. Both are awesome pro-life advocates.
Anyway, once the bill was out in the open to be voted on, it passed the Senate 25-13. I haven’t heard much feedback from the opposition, but Anthony Hensley thought it was “an outrage.” No mention of whether he was foaming at the mouth at the time. Come on District 19, you can find a better Senator than that. Don’t you have any high school dropouts you could sit in his chair? They’d do at least as well and likely better. Maybe some of his students?
Net result, the bill now goes to Pro-Abort Kate, who has a tough decision to make. Does she please her Sugar Daddy George Tiller and veto the bill? Or does she try to look the part of a moderate-Democrat-who-just-might-be-a-good-vice-presidential-candidate- because-she-won’t-scare-the-centrists-as-badly by letting this bill become law? Your call Kate, are you going to dance with the one who b(r)ought you, or are you going home with the captain of the football team after he made some comment about liking your dress? It’s been a week with no word. Either she’s balancing her checkbook, or trying on her new push-up bra, depending on whom she wants to please
In fact, I’ll bet Kate would love to hear from her voters which route she should take. Here’s her phone number and email address. If someone answers the phone saying, “Whuddup,” that’s just her son playing his prison bitch game in the Governor’s Mansion.

Forward this message to everyone you know, she’ll love it. Really!. Let her know that we’re A-OK with her signing this bill and trying to leave our wonderful state to pursue her political dreams…and don’t let the door hit you.
For those of you considering running for State Rep position, did you see how much difficulty could have been caused by the Chairman of that committee? This was in the Senate, but the same thing happens in the House. One of your first goals as a newly elected Representative will be to get on committees. That’s where a lot of good bills go to die, and that’s where you can make a significant impact, maybe not your first term, but pretty quickly.
And speaking of impact from directions we
didn’t expect, how about those Johnson County Commissioners? They tried to yank
the $25,000 they had given Phill Kline to hire a special prosecutor to
investigate the sneaky tactics Paul “we had sex, but never talked” Morrison used
to attempt to undermine Phill’s case against Planned Parenthood of Johnson
County, claiming that it was because one of the Special Prosecutors worked for
Phill at one time. Funny, it seems to me that a Special Prosecutor who had
first-hand experience of the shenanigans being attempted would improve his
credibility. Annabeth Surbaugh sure seemed all fired up to yank the funding
back. What stopped her? Could it have been John Toplikar, who brought with him
to the meeting the records of contributions made by
Nice work, John, you followed the steps of the best possible role model. District 6 seems to have some fine people casting votes. Chairman Surbaugh, no hat tip for you, but despite your initial complaints the funding stays with Phill.
Voters, let that be a lesson to you. A
lot of times we look at different issues when dealing with
In the ongoing slow-motion crime courtroom drama of the year, enforcement of the law finished a close second behind an oozing blob of molasses. This week the KS Supreme Court considered whether or not investigating George Tiller’s records was a violation of his right to due process. If this weren’t such a serious matter, it would be funny. In what other areas might this argument be made?
Officer, you’ve broken into my house three times looking for drugs, and I’ve never honored your search warrant. You just shouldn’t try it anymore. Just because you can see my drug plants in the back yard and see stoned people leaving my house at all hours, don’t think that you have a cause that would make my lawyers submit to your search. I know my rights!
Can you say tasered?
Not in the Supreme Court, and certainly
not when dealing with an abortionist. We take our time and ponder the serious
issue of whether or not a court ordered subpoena of records should be enforced
when dealing with one of the major sources of political campaign funds in
We need to pay a lot more attention to judges. This year’s voter’s guide will have a section just for judges we DON’T want to retain. Wouldn’t that be shocker for some of them?
It might be almost as much of a shock as the two members of the Kansas Board of Healing Arts received when the negative press hit the fan about their complete inaction in carrying out their duties. Now, they couldn’t be bothered with wrongful death cases against abortionists, or coerced abortions, nah, that’s no big deal. They had to allow a pain-pill shop run by a lunatic doctor to kill 50 some odd patients over a number of years before someone finally said, “You guys don’t really do much at all, do you?” Finally there was enough pressure brought to bear (big hat-tip to the folks at KFL for this one) that Executive Director Larry Buening and General Counsel Mark Stafford decided that maybe their vacation should take place somewhere outside of their office. I understand that their 500,000 point pitch marathon isn’t going to end, they just have to move outside and stop getting paid.
Surely Kate can dredge up some more lackadaisical employees if she tries…it’s just going to be a long search.
Quick update: We have one pro-life Republican candidate in the 18th District. His name is Judge John Rubin. I’ll find out more about him and get back with you. We still need a pro-life Democratic candidate to take on Cindy Neighbors in the Primary for the 18th District, and candidates from both parties for Districts 16, 28, 86 and 87.
April 4 - Mark your calendars for June 10. That date is the deadline for candidates to file with the Secretary of State for primary elections. We have identified excellent candidates for the 3rd District U.S. House (Nick Jordan) and the 10th District State Senate (Mary Pilcher-Cook), but I’ve received no information about State Rep filings.
We’re looking for pro-life candidates of both parties in the following districts to defeat incumbent pro-abortion legislators:
District 16 Overland Park/Lenexa District 18 Lake Quivira/Shawnee District 28 Overland Park/Leawood
District 86
District 87
Below, I’ve listed the filing requirements.
You may wonder why I’ve asked for candidates of both parties to file. I’m envisioning a pro-abortion candidate having to defend themselves in a primary battle against a pro-life challenger. If they survive the primary, then they have another pro-life challenger to face in the general election. There really is a method to that madness! Actually, there are two reasons, one demographic and one economic.
Some districts lean heavily toward one party or another. In those districts, one party will always have the advantage. If the incumbent is a member of that majority party, then a primary election is really the only place we can realistically score a victory.
Also, elections are about money. If we can force every pro-abortion incumbent to wage two election battles, they aren’t going to be able to spend nearly as much money campaigning on any single campaign. Less money spent = less campaigning = less votes.
You may have noticed that I don’t care about party affiliation. Respecting life is moral imperative, not a political party.
For more information about how to run a campaign for the House of Representatives, go to the Proud Catholic Voters website, click on “catalog” and then click on “Publications.” So far there’s only one publication there, but it’s a pretty good one. You can download it for free, or request multiple copies to be printed in booklet form, in case you’d like to hand them out to your parish or K of C membership.
If you or anyone you you know, is interested in running for office, let me know. I would be more than happy to help pro-life candidates for any public office. Just email me with any questions or concerns. If I don’t know the answer, I can guarantee that I know someone who does.
January 22 - Kathleen Sebelius finally took time out of her busy schedule to actually do something crazy - her job. Of course, she had to finish a pesky, but oh so narcissistically pleasing fashion shoot before actually getting down to work. (I haven’t seen the photos, but I’ve heard rumors of the working title,”Governors Gone Wild.”) On Friday, she appointed Judge Stephen Six to the position of Attorney General. This decision marks a departure from Kate’s normal style, in that it seems her decision making process employed neither a spiritualist to channel evil minions in the bowels of hell nor a Magic Eight Ball. Now, I’m not saying this guy shares our views. For all I know, he supplements his home heating system by burning aborted babies in his fireplace. As far as public record is concerned however, it doesn’t appear as if Stephen Six has been corrupted by George Tiller’s graft money. Sure, he’s given money to such pillars of moral virtue as Kathleen Sebelius and Dennis Moore, but that’s almost to be expected from any appointment Kate would have made. This selection seems to indicate that Kate wants to avoid the firestorm that would have arisen had she appointed a more obvious pro-abortion Attorney General. Chris Biggs was one of the names bandied about for the position. Chris received something in the neighborhood of $200,000 in campaign assistance from George Tiller’s ProKanDo PAC when he ran against Phill Kline for the AG position in 2002. The fact that he got absolutely thrashed in that election doesn’t change the fact that he owes Tiller – big time. With Tiller facing 19 charges from the AG office and a voter-led grand jury, I guess pro-abort Kate thought it would be just a little too obvious to appoint Mr. Biggs to the position. Could she be trying to hide the corruption and cronyism rampant in her administration because it is an election year? That’s the way I read it. Or maybe she’s trying to maintain an image of respectability for fear of damaging her own political career. Remember, pro-abort Kate is in her last term, and it’s no secret that she has national aspirations. We plan on giving Stephen Six the benefit of doubt for the moment. It’s not his fault (probably) that he was selected by a real piece of work. I look forward to seeing how Stephen Six will handle his new responsibilities. Is he a judge or an activist? We’ll see. In other news, Johnson County DA Phill Kline presented some killer evidence at a preliminary trial on a motion he filed to have Planned Parenthood’s legal counsel disqualified from representing Planned Parenthood in the upcoming trial on 107 felony counts. It seems that Planned Parenthood didn’t maintain legal records stating that the viable babies they aborted were, in fact, unviable. Confronted with this fact, it seems they did a really sloppy job of fabricating records to suit their needs. Of course the motion was denied, but I don’t think that was very surprising to anyone, especially Mr. Kline. The whole point of this motion, if I am seeing it correctly, was to keep Planned Parenthood from seeking a new trial when their own attorneys are called as witnesses against them. Some of you probably already know that irony is my favorite brand of humor, and I got a heaping dose of entertainment at this hearing. When one of Planned Parenthood’s attorneys, Pedro Ahmgonnadelay (or some such), rose from his chair to recite a canned speech in a voice loud enough to ensure that none of the reporters in the room would miss a single syllable. What was the speech? That Phill Kline was only seeking publicity with the hearing! Um, Pedro, could you move your mouth a little further from the microphone when you say that? I don’t know what the future holds, Proud Catholic Voters, but I think I can say with utmost confidence that it’s going to be a wild ride.
January 6 - Happy New Year!
2007 was quite a roller-coaster ride. We
had Paul Morrison take office in
2007 also brought us 19 charges, esoteric as they may be, against George Tiller himself. This may be the closest thing to pressure that he has faced since the obviously pro-life motivated evil, nasty Kansas Board of Healing Arts (unlike the current bunch of scofflaws at the KBHA, largely handpicked by Tiller’s pet governor, Kathleen Sebelius, who would never make such a judgmental decision) had the audacity in 1984 to claim that Demerol and Jack Daniels in the bloodstream of a physician was counterproductive to the health and safety of his female patients. Likewise Phill Kline brought 109 charges against Planned Parenthood of Johnson County. Of course details of these charges are still pretty closely guarded, but given the track record of other Planned Parenthoods across the country with a history of protecting pedophiles, child molesters and other sex offenders under the auspices of improving the quality of life for women, Planned Parenthood may be singing Auld Lang Syne while hearkening back to the good old days when all they had to worry about were fire bombs.
I like to think that we played some small role in bringing these things about, which brings me to 2008, an election year. As a clearing house of relevant pro-life and pro-family information, I am very pleased with what we have done so far. I don’t plan on changing this strategy for the future, and I have some ideas of things that we can do in addition, given the network that we have developed. I don’t know exactly how many people are now in this network. The initial emails go out to over 150 concerned voters, but judging from the email responses that I receive these emails are redistributed any number of times, quite often even outside the state.
I know that we are reaching a lot of people but I don’t know how many and that makes for a difficult response when I am asked how many members are in the Proud Catholic Votes Association. So here is what I would like to do. I want to create some sort of a membership database so numerical data can be provided in response to that question. But, don’t worry, I am absolutely not going to restrict our updates to”members only.” The entire point is to inform people and that goal is hindered by preaching only to the “choir.”
For the upcoming election year PCVA has targeted five state representative districts, one state senate district and one US representative district as being politically “in play” and ripe for a pro-life candidate to challenge an aggressively pro-abortion incumbent. What I ask for is a pledge to support one of these seven candidates with a financial contribution of $50.00 or more over the course of this election year.
How this contribution is made is left completely up to you. Send them a check directly, I will be providing mailing information for that purpose, or send a check to the Proud Catholic Voters Association with the candidate’s name and/or district number on the memo line. You may also contribute via PayPal at the Proud Catholic Voters website. Click on the “Donate” tab and list the candidate or district number under “item.” If you do not specify a candidate or district I will determine which candidate will most benefit and allocate your contribution appropriately. My goal is to raise an average of $1500 for each of these seven candidates – that’s right, 210 members contributing $10,500 over the course of this year. It doesn’t sound like too much, but this is the first year we’ve tried such an initiative, so I don’t really know what to expect.
The main thing, no matter how you get your contribution to them is to let me know when you do. That way, we will have a record of exactly how much impact PCVA had for each candidate as well as some idea of how many Proud Catholic Voters we have within our network.
Will you receive anything of substance for
your contribution? No, not really, other than the satisfaction of working with
a rapidly growing network of like-minded individuals to bring about an end to
abortion in
Below are the districts we’ve targeted, based upon the insecure status of the pro-abortion incumbent. For the State Representatives positions, we don’t even have challengers yet (the filing deadline isn't until June), so we’re certainly not sure of a pro-life challenger. Obviously, we won’t be making any contributions to these districts until the pro-life status of the challenger is verified.
